A few weeks ago at 30,000 miles I changed the transmission fluid to GM Syncromesh (Friction Modified). At the time I didn't think I would notice a difference but now I'd have to say the transmission does shift smoother with less notchiness between gears. Others on S2ki.com have said the same thing.

The fluid is not easy to find, you can either order it from Hardtopguy on S2ki or you can do like I did and contact your local AC/Delco dealer and have them order a few quarts. I used Sosbee's in downtown Lawrenceville and they had two quarts for me the same day I called.

Took less then an hour to jack up the car, drain the fluid, and pump the Syncromesh into the transmission. For the fluid pump I ended using the Modifry Pneumatic Mason Jar pump :D (insert Austin Powers movie quote here).

....one swedish made pneumatic mason jar pump.

Sounds awsome. I wonder if it would work in the 04's. I know that LE said that their fluid was not good for the 04's because of the carbon fiber synchros.

personally, I haven't been very keen on the LE I put in my tranny some months back --shifting got very notchy as soon as I switched, and now that we're getting colder temps is sometimes near impossible

I used RedLine MTF in mine for about 20k miles. The dealer switched it back to OEM when I had the clutch TSB done a few months back. I have to say I don't notice much difference, but I expect it to be more noticable as it gets colder.

Anyway, to the point...thanks for the info Dave. The GM fluid seems to be a good alternative.

LE hasn't developed a Transmission fluid up to par for our cars. You should only be putting LE in the diff and motor.

I had the same thing done to my car, the tranny is a lot smoother, especially with the car is cold. here is the part number 1#12377916

I don't know if it is the oil, or the interval frequency. I changed my tranny oil at 15K miles with Honda MTF, and it shifts as smoothely as ever. I think you will always notice an improvement in shifting when you replace the oil......it is just a matter of how long of an interval the oil will maintain smoothe shifting.
