Don't know if any of you have heard about this or not. Quite a few poeple on S2KI had posted that removing the resonator from the exhaust improved the sound. Well since I am thinking about getting a new exhaust I decided to give it a try and see if I actually like more noise. I must say it is a pretty nice little mod. I took it to the Mineke at Town Center and 45 minutes and $35 later I had a big :D on my face. It isn't dramatic...just enough to make the exhaust note a bit loader than the engine up until VTEC. It also gives it a bit more grumble at idle and a nice growl that is especially noticable from 4 - 6K RPMs. The only problem is that I like extra sound so much I think I am going to get an aftermarket exhaust anyway.

Pictures...I hope.

That's good info.

I've been thinking about using only a resonator on my car without any muffler at all. I don't think my car could be any louder than it is now

is the resonator inside the muffler? or part of the exhaust?

The resonator is located upstream from the mufflers. It's suppose to eliminate some of the harsher exhaust frequencys, to help the mufflers do a better job of making the exaust more quiet.

Since both the resonator and the muffler have failed on my exhaust, I'm thinking about just replacing the resonator(for free, due to magnaflow's lifetime warranty) and just running straight pipe out the back of the car from there.

Johnyboy, thanks for the post. i had mine removed, too. It sounds good. Not too loud, just right. I had it done at lawrenceville Mineke for 45 bucks, too.

I tried to have mine done at the same place johnyboy but apparently there is only one person that can do it there...and it seems like he is never there, so I went to Midas off Barrett Pkwy and they did an awesome job, looks like a factory job....by that I mean that the weld was perfect, and the pipe they used was identical to the exhaust pipe. I would highly recommend them.

BTW...it sounds good too.

I just got back from the muffler shop. I had the resonator replaced, and a slash cut staight tip put on. No more muffler. It's loud as hell. I'll probably keep it this way till I get sick of it.

Wait till you hear it. It's soooooo fricken loud! It sounds very raw. I'm happy with it for now. It didn't cost me that much, and I don't have to listen to the muffler rattle like you :D

I had the boys over at Meineke on Buford HWY do it. The cost was very cheap(about $100). That paid for the labor to replace the resonator too. They used the exsisting Spugen exhaust. I really don't think you would be happy having your car this loud. I could be wrong though.

i just had the whole middle from the cat to the split replaced. no more funky angle piece and no more resonator just the 2 stock mufflers.

sounds deeper at idle but the intake still wins the rest of the rpm range.

Not much, if anything.
