Toyota has been eyeing Nissan's success with the revived 350Z - and apparently, from spy pictures nabbed this week, it's been a little jealous of supercars like the Porsche Carrera GT, too. Toyota 's been caught testing what some insiders are calling the "TXS," a limited-production exotic that might be powered by a V-10 engine worth 500 hp.

Pictures show the TXS with enough cladding to disguise much of its shape, but clearly, this is no Celica or MR2-sized sportscar. Insiders suggest the car will tip in at less than 3000 pounds, giving its 500-hp powerplant (with 370 lb-ft of torque) a serious chance at catching the likes of the Porsche and Benz supercars. Top speed could reach 190 mph, the same league as the 550-hp Ford GT. Whether the drivetrain offers any version of Toyota 's hybrid technology is unknown.

Whether the final vehicle is sold as a Lexus or as a Toyota, it's likely that a limited production run of about 10,000 units is in order. Expect a debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show and an on-sale date soon after - with a price tag well over $100,000.

Looks like they may have started with the Supra and improved from there.

Then they should try to keep the price close to what the Z is selling for. From the looks of it, they are building a super car that won't be in the same price range...Bastardshttp://www.s2katlanta.com/%7Es2katl/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif

They need to ditch that goofy spoiler.

I doubt it will make too many waves. I'm sure it will be awsome and people will drool over it, but the people that buy 100k+ cars don't want to buy a Toyota.

I agree....I was going to say that is a dumba$$ spoiler! 100K is a bit pricy and far from the 350Z price tag. If I was going to spend 100K I'd buy a Porsche or a Viper instead of a Toyota.

I will never spend $100k on a car. I'll just break it, and it would cost more to fix :(

But if you had the money to spend $100k on a car then it wouldn't really matter if you broke it, you could just go buy another one.... :goodjob:

I think your S is getting close to that mark. I guess you meant you wouldn't spend that much on a car from the beginning.:D

This is true. I am at the point with my S. If I have to spend a lot more money to get it fixed...it's gone.

Pontiac has made me a solid offer on the GTO.

You should get a good deal on those GTO's since they aren't selling.

My usual thoughts on pontiac are crap, but the GTO is made in Australia under Holden. The inside does look really nice, but it's more of a straight liner than a turn goer. Try goint to ls1gto.com for more info. I'd stick with another S. I'm sure you could get a solid deal on an 04 right now. Plus you can't beat the community.

The GTO is a very nice car...a few mods...and it's a badass car. The car doesn't drive like a GM at all(that's a good thing).

It feels more like an import car. I've driven the G35 coupe, and it feels like a domestic

Assuming you have suddenly developed a liking for GM products, you should think about the C6 Corvette. Todd can probably get you a good deal on one. Shouldn't cost you much more than $10K more than the Pontiac, but you'll get 100% more performance.

A corvette would be nice. However, the gto is going to cost me about $28000. I've spoken with my insurance company...it will save me about $200 per year.

For mid year 2005, the GTO will have the same motor as the C6. That seems like a lot of car for the money.

Now, that being said. It's no S2000. I love my S. if I continue to have problems with it, i will have no other choice but to get rid of it. I have invested a lot of money in the last 4 months into the car. +making payments on top of that.

Now back on topic...Toyota sucks!! Good for them...making a car that I can't afford...that will do all kinds of cool things that it's potential owners will never know.

I think if they just revamped the Supra (with another twin turbo of course), they would see the same reaction nissan had with the Z. Only price it in comparison to the Z. I'm sure they're thinking of this, they're just taking their time.

personally, I'm anxiously awaiting Toyota/ Honda formal entry into aviation. their engines/durability are going to revolutionize the playing field and flatten the domestics if they don't get off their butts, and soon.

TOYOTA AND SUPERCAR = NO SENSE. TELL THEM PUT LEXUS EMBLEM ON IT, THEY PROLLY CAN SELL THEM TO SOMEONE THEN.
I WILL NEVER PUT $100K ON TOYOTA'S. RATHER BUY 6-7 CAMRY's or 9-10 Corolla's
