Stop by REI or Galyan's they both have good selections of Motorola FRS radios & headsets like Dewain has.

so could I buy rechargeable batteries separately? or is it not even worth it? im using this radio strictly for the s2k drive...i dont need it for anything else...

btw, i can get my hands on 4 AA batteries for like $2...

It's up to you. I like the radios that come with rechargables already b/c you just drop the whole radio in the charger. I wouldn't think that you would get more than two drives out of a set of batteries.

Not so much...I have a set of duracell's in mine that have gone through the last 2 Dragons and are still going strong. Energizer bunny eat your heart out. :)

yeah.. alkaline batteries do last longer than the rechargeable.... depends on your preferance.... I have rechargeables but most of the time I just buy some cheap batteries instead...

Just bought a pair of Cobra GMRS/FRS radios at Staples (on sale) for $20 A PAIR! No rechargeable batteries though, and probably not the nearly-unbreakable quality of the Motorolas, but what do you want for $20?

The GMRS band is the one with 1 Watt output power and 5-mile range. It would be nice if enough of us had GMRS radios we could start using that band and get a little better range in the mountains.

what brand is everyone using, and who has those the cheapest?

i've been using the motorola talkabout for about three years now, and haven't had any problems, but they're probably obsolete now?

I think pretty much everyone is using those as well. Just make sure you have sub channels. If you don't, then you might want to consider buying a new set. I'm pretty sure that motorola makes a $20 set with grms and subchannels.

i went to officemax today and picked up a pair of motorola 5500. i saw dewain's model for sale: $44 ea., but went with the pair just incase our family goes some place...

i had a $10 coupon so i paid about $32 with tax. tested out and i think it should be just fine for the drive. although i have to hold the button down as i talk unlike dewains where one touch does it all...

or maybe i might go exchange it with dewain's model...that one worked extrmemely well...anyways...for anyone looking for a decent enough walkietalkie, officemax got it for a pretty deecent price...
