Tired of the weekly meeting place? Have an idea of a great place to meet? We are always open to suggestions for a change of venue. If you would like to recommend a new meeting place for weekly meets, please post your suggestions below. Keep in mind the following things:

1. Space to park
2. Price
3. Variety of food
4. Distance from Atlanta
5. Accommodation for groups without long waits

I have no problem with Frankies. I know some people got tired of the food but it was a central place for everyone to meet and plenty of parking.

Ok, anyone else tired of paying at least $40/mo. for crappy bar food!?
Even my cheap-a** would rather pay more and have something decent!

RedHotTeacher

btw - $40/mo is a $10/week break-down...I know some people don't go every week and others pay more each time...

Amy, I'm open to suggestions. We have quite a few criteria that a meeting spot has got to meet. I was considering the Brickery, which is just a little more north on Roswell Road, but it's pricier than Frankie's.

bubbachong
11-08-2005, 01:10 PM
Frankies is not that great, but i can't think of anything else that would fit all the criteria.

Treehouse: Great, but limited parking
Pura Vida: Great Tapas food, great people, great drinks, I know the owner so she could make accommodations for us weekly, parking across the street, but its off near Virginia Highlands so traffic would be horrible for people coming from the G-hood and D-Ville
We could meet near down town decatur. Their's lots of stuff there and plenty of parking. Plus its always fun to be there.

My two selections other than frankies.

KatJ
11-08-2005, 01:14 PM
Decatur would be a traffic nightmare!

bubbachong

Then it seems like the venue is not changing. Unless people want to meet at the asian and latin restaurants on Buford Hwy.

I'm down for that.

Then you get the people who don't like ethnic food. (cough, Joe :D)

Geography wise, we should stay between 75 and 85 (but easy to get to), Buckhead or further north. This has been our conundrum for quite some time. Pig n Chik has been a venue but I think people didn't like having bbq every week (that was before my time). The Taco Mac on Roswell Rd near the river had a traffic problem being that far north.

I'll strongly consider any restaurant that fits the requirements. I'm not a huge fan of Frankie's either.

Those of us that have been around a while really enjoy watching the new generation deal with all the same problems again. http://www.s2katlanta.com/%7Es2katl/forum/images/smilies/laughing-smiley-014.gif

The bottom line is you can't please all the people all the time. No matter what you do you will be compromising something and any place you keep going back to will get old.

I would suggest 5 seasons which is right there in the Frankies parking lot. The complaint will be that it costs more. My opinion is life is too short to waste on bad food or bad beer.

What about "The Loop"? Right off Chamblee Tucker, 100 yds outside perimeter, an eyelash past I-85 on 285. PLENTY of parking, outdoor deck if it's warm enough, lots of room inside.

Ok, I'll take these items under review. The problem with switching around is that not everyone checks the boards and people can get lost.

I've eaten at The Loop in Sandy Springs and the food is good, the challenge is that it's not reserved seating and you order at a counter. I'll check out the one at Embry Hills.

same scenario at Embry Hills location........on a Tuesday or Thursday we'll make up most of the customers though

there's also a good (i hear) wings place / pool hall down the sidewalk from there

No problem. I went last night and I think I had the oldest join date.

As far as 5 seasons is concerned they have a less fromal bar type area in the front to left when you walk in. I have seen plenty of groups meeting in there so if we call ahead they should be able to accomodate us I hope.

I drove over there last weekend and just imagined what the traffic would be like for anyone west of that exit on 285. Frankie's is mostly against traffic for both the NW and NE sides of town. However, there is a Loop not far from Frankies, close to Hammond and Roswell Road. It's near a Kroger so there is a big parking lot.... except they just rebuilt the center and it now has a Meehan's and The Grape. Now Meehan's may be a good option too.... I'll just have to scope it some and see if parking will be a problem.

If a new restaurant is chosen, it will start in January or February and there will be plenty of notice.

How about the new Taco Mac at Lindbergh or Perimeter?

1. Space to park - both have plenty

2. Price - similar to Frankie's, if not a little cheaper

3. Variety of food - similar or better than Frankie's, but they have a MUCH better beer selction - which is pretty important for us, right???

4. Distance from Atlanta - Lindbergh is right in the middle, and Perimeter is good for those coming from points north

5. Accommodation for groups without long waits - Usually just fine

If you zoom into the satelite version of Google Maps,
they are pointing at at a Condo/Apartment complex

1. Space to park - Located at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, parking is no problem.

2. Price - Like any other place, $10-20 for everything

3. Variety of food - typical bar/sports bar food

4. Distance from Atlanta - located in Douglasville right off I-20. Exit 36 / Chappel Hill RD.

5. Accommodation for groups without long waits - I have yet to go so I can't speak for this. I'm gonna try to go for my birthday on the 5th or the following day.

4. Distance from Atlanta - located in Douglasville right off I-20. Exit 36 / Chappel Hill RD.

5. Accommodation for groups without long waits - I have yet to go so I can't speak for this. I'm gonna try to go for my birthday on the 5th or the following day.

I'd prefer something a little more central. I live in Lawrenceville and work in Norcross. There's no way I'm driving to Douglasville from either location. It would take me 2 hours to get there because of the traffic.

What's wrong with the current Thursday night location (Taco Mac and Outback at Perimeter Mall)? I wouldn't mind moving the Tuesday night meets there as well.

If we're going to drive to Douglasville, we might as well just go to Joe's house...:D

I don't think anything is wrong with the current location. I just think it always worth addressing anytime someone makes a suggestion.

It's all good, just thought i'd throw it out there since it looked interesting. I hope to start showing up to a few of the Tuesday/Thursday night meets once my classes end in a few weeks. Class and work schedules aren't allowing much of anything right now.

What did you have when you went to Quake Steak Welery? I'm thinking about stopping by next Tuesday and trying their wings if they're worth a damn. Otherwise I might run to Taco Mac or Buffalo Wild Wings.

Even though I don't attend alot of meetings, I would like to suggest the Pizza Cafe right off of 78 East & West Park Place. Very accessible off 78 East. Pizza is good along with salads and sandwiches, and bar drinks are really reasonable. There is plenty of parking and they will setup tables for groups.:drive:

Yeah, but when I want an Amstel Light or a Heineken, that's what I want. Not something similar. And sometimes I want a burger on a Tuesday night.

If we moved Frankie's to Tuesday and kept the new Thursday as-is, would BurnLounge still be a problem?

Jocks & Jills makes a trip to bankruptcy court

Reeling from a million-dollar sexual harassment lawsuit earlier this year, Atlanta based Jocks & Jills Restaurants LLC, operator of the sports-bar eatery of the same name, filed for Chapter 11 protection Monday.
The chain, in its filing in U.S. District Court, said it is taking the action to reorganize the business because its operations would be "impaired" by the $1.05 million it owes a former worker who recently won a sexual harassment claim.

It is appealing the verdict, but a stay has not been granted.
The company will release a statement Tuesday, according to a Jocks and Jills representative who wouldn't give her name.
The company was founded in 1987 by former Atlanta Hawks players Randy Wittman and Scott Hastings, along with Turner Sports announcer Craig Sager.
The chain has seven stores in Georgia and locations in Charlotte and Parker, Colo. It also operates Frankies Sports Grill on Roswell Road and 1420 Room, an events facility in Dunwoody.
Chapter 11 shields a company from certain debt payments while a repayment plan is negotiated under a judge's supervision.
