View Full Version : Bumper repair?

I think I know the answer to this, but I will ask anyway. Does anyone know a way to repair scratches/gouges in the bumper other than replacing it?
The night Ivan ripped through town I was heading up the downtown connector about 1 AM (from a late flight, not a party). A pickup cut in front of me and either kicked up or dropped one of those big 5 gallon plastic buckets. There wasn't time for avoidance and given the extremely wet roads, violent steering was probably not a good idea. So I sent the bucket to PVC heaven but it left some really nice marks in my front bumper.

Keep the scratched one as your track bumper and get a new one, or try Platinum Collision. A few people on the board have used them with varying results. Do a search on the forum and you'll see various threads discussing their work.
Take before and after pictures as I have few little dings/scraps/dents that need to be fixed.

The only way I know to repair the damage your talking about is to have a body shop fill the gouges and repaint the bumper. If the shop doesn't recommend filling the gouges due to the flex of the ABS your only other choice is to buy a new front bumper cover and do like Mistervlus says and keep the old one for track days and such.
After the repair work is complete you may want to consider adding a clear bra to the front of the car. It may have minimized the damage in the first place and it's much easier to replace than a new bumper cover.

Off topic here. Silverfox I have half used Axxis brake pads and willing to let them go cheap.

Last quote I'd heard from www.Speedfilm.net (http://www.Speedfilm.net) was around $550.

I used Platinum Collission when someone bumped my '01 and took a chunk out of the reat bumper...they filled the spot and did such a good touchup job that you couldn't tell where the spot was - even in bright sunlight...not an easy job with the yellow on the S
I highly recommend them for your bumper job...(plus, since they are a club sponsor you'll get a nice little discount on the work if you show them your membership card)

Try Seat Surgeon. Check out Leather Repair thread in the Wash and Wax forum. They have a division that does bumpers and wheels. They do work for a lot of the high end dealerships and are trying to get into retail. They'll give you a 10% discount if you show your card. Let me know what happens.

I had my front bumper touched up by Colors on Parade...your damage sounds a bit more extensive, but the guy did a great job and I'd definitely use him again. I've got a Silverstone 02 and he matched the paint perfectly...
