I'm really liking getting digital subscriptions to my favorite magazines and thought I would share:
Pros:
1) You get the issue immediately, no waiting for them to send it to you in the mail.
2) Your magazine comes to you unwrinkled and undamaged.
3) You save a tree (or part of one).
4) You can search an entire issue in a few seconds.
5) No need to clean out old magazines.
6) They take up very little physical space (almost none).
7) You can download up to three copies so I can have a copy on all three of the computers I have (home laptop, work laptop, Mac Mini).
8) You can print any article and if I you have Adobe Acrobat you can even print any article and send it to a friend.
9) You can send an entire issue to a friend (but that's probably limited).
10) All links in the articles and ads are hot links so if your interested in something all you have to do is click on the link.
11) I wasn't sure I would like reading a magazine on computer screen but with today's crisp LCD technology and the Zinio reader I think it's really easy to read.
12) The table of contents is linked so you can jump right to all stories and features.
13) Cost is the same (sometimes less) as the paper version. In fact Car and Driver is giving me the electronic subscription for free since I already get the paper subscription.
14) No annoying binder crease.
Cons:
You need a computer to read the issue, unless you print it out first, so there are times when it's more convienent to have a paper copy.
Currently I get Macworld and Car & Driver electronically and am thinking about getting a digital subscription to Mountain Biking magazine but am not sure if I'd have the time to read it.
