Just had the opportunity to kick it all the way through 1st and 2nd gear with the new 2006 IS 350! I first encountered him at a 4 way stop by colonial 18 theaters in Lawrenceville and he got to go first and thought he would show off a bit and kick it rather quickly towards hwy 120, so I go next and make sure that I get behind him so when he gets on to 120 I will be right there incase he decides to get on it. First thing I notice is that it is a dealer tag and right away I know my chance was good that he will want to race a little as dealer drivers tend to want to show off what they have the privaledge of selling. So, back to the encounter: the light turns green and I'm behind him and he kicks it hard sure enough in first so of course I follow suit and then we both hit 2nd and we were both fish tailing slightly (still under control) for about 20 yrds (minimum) and once we went 1/2 way through 3rd (or the s2000's 1/2 way) he let off as he realized I was still riding right next to him and he just lost the point that he was trying to make:nono: Now you can say well we both broke loose and if we had traction his higher torque would have givin him a larger pull on me or that he has 306 hp and could take me on a dry day, but I come out of this with a nice rev directly beside to say "don't be so quick to think you are just going to smoke me" he had no reaction to try again as he just stayed back several car links until I turned on Riverside to go home. I consider that a great run and accomplishment as one was set out to prove a point and now he has nothing to speak of to his dealer buddies other than he could not get away half way through 3rd gear with an s2000 baby!!!
I love this car:drive: :drive: :drive:

The IS350 may have 306 hp/277 lb-ft but it weighs 3500 lbs so the extra HP is offset by the extra weight. If you look at the power/weight ratio the S2000 has 11.6 lbs/hp while the IS350 is 11.5 lbs/hp, almost dead even and the IS350 is an automatic so in a straight line it's much easier to get off the line.
What you described is exactly what I'd expect, the two cars are pretty much even. Lexus claims 0-60 in 5.3s so it should be a little faster than the S2000 but in reality if the two cars are within 0.5s of each other 0-60 it depends more on the weather conditions and the driver as to which car would pull ahead.

Great points Dave and I conclude from your responses that if the weather was better than he would have been sucking my exhaust:yawn:
