View Full Version : Quick, reliable oil change place in the SS/Dunwoody area?

I really need to get the oil in my S changed. It's very hard for me to find time to do this because I typically work 10-12 hours a day during the week and my weekends are usually the only time I get to relax. I made an appointment with Alan Cox to get my oil changed last Saturday, but I fell asleep on the couch and didn't wake up until after 6 o'clock (sorry, Sherry!). ACA is great but they're kind of far for me to get to during the week. I work near perimeter mall. Is there anywhere close by that part of town that can do a quick oil change during the week?

What's the closest stealership to you? If there is someone you trust in your area I would go ahead and purchase a bunch of Honda Oil Filters and use someone you trust.

its probably most important to always go to the same place for oil changes - that way when they cross thread the drain plug - they can't blame anyone but themselves.

At one time on our Accord, we used Jiffy Lube just up the street sometimes and other times we would have it done at Honda Carland during regular service. After Jiffy Lube did the change one time - it started leaking and they wouldn't take responsibility. Since both places had done oil changes and they claimed they didn't do it - it was hard to "proove" they did. After a new oil pan - one place (Honda Carland) always did oil changes thereafter.

I do, the place is right outside my garage door. They use genuine Honda filters and the oil of my choosing, the place is really inexpensive too. If something gets screwed up I know the "manager" will take care of me.

It only takes about 30 min. for me to do the job, less time than driving to most any other oil change place.

I've pulled and replaced 2 tons of engines - a ton of transmissions and I don't know how many alternators, starters, rear ends, drive shafts and brakes. My dad stuck a wrench in my hand when i was 5 and until i turned about 30 - i never seemed to put one down. I don't care if I ever turn another bolt. I went through grade school, jr high and high school with grease stains on my hands - even with gojo to clean them.

I decided when i was about 30 it made more sense to make enough money to not have to get my hands dirty unless i want to... or have to due to breakdowns.

Home done oil changes are simple, easy and cheap and everyone should know how - even the females. That said - i'd rather drive than spend an hour getting grease out from under my fingernails.

I understand where your coming from. I just don't want anyone screwing around with my car doing something I can do myself. I've personally experienced too many issues with run-of-the-mill oil change places and just find it easier and more trustworthy to do it myself.

I'm with Dave...but get a fumoto drain valve. I barley have to bend over to do an oil change. I just slide the pan under the car and reach through the engine bay to flip the it open. That way I can make sure that the right filter and the right amount of the right oil gets in my engine.

Yeah - the fumoto valve looks ideal. Probably the best mod anyone can do. Keeping the halfwits out of your engine compartment is always the best thing when possible.

I only suggest using an oil change place when i add that you only go to one - that way they pay for their own screw ups.

I live in that part of town but I do my own oil changes (starting with the next one as I now have a fumoto valve). No one I've been to around here knows about my car except the dealers.

Example exchange:
"Do you do oil changes for Honda S2000s?"
Yeah, sure, what kind of Honda is your 2000?
"No, it's a 2001 Honda S2000. It uses a different filter, do you have them?"
No, I haven't seen any of those before.

I use the dealer...it's not near SS/Dunwoody...but, I work in Roswell...and it's less than a mile from my school...it's not realistic for me to do it myself...

I would think your assocation has a rule about doing auto work in the parking deck. Nice AJC vent by the way..

I agree...In theory. I wonder if you could actually get anything from one of those quicklube joints if they screwed something up? There is probably a waiver in the fineprint somewhere. http://www.s2katlanta.com/%7Es2katl/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

John's got a great point. To me it's worth a drive to Alan Cox on a Saturday or now, doing it myself.

I'm just saying that if you pick someone to do an oil change - stick with them. You give them too big an out if they can say "that's how it was when we started" - which is what jiffy did to us and since we had been using two places - i couldn't prove otherwise. It's a lot harder for them to say someone else did it if you have the records to show every oil change was done in their shop.
The fumoto valve solves it all. Even the jiffylube idiots can't screw up the threads on that!

Your optimism is admirable. http://www.s2katlanta.com/%7Es2katl/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

yeah - you're probably right - they'd try to figure out a way to take it out to drain the oil and screw it up putting it back in.

I don't have a place to do my own oil changes. And right now, even if I did, I don't think I would. I'm working 60+ hours a week and sometimes weekends. So right now my time off is at a huge premium.
