Well, now that I have Jesse's former wheels and a new set of tires on my S, I really want to put a decent set of track tires on my AP2 wheels and use them for track/autoX. That way I can keep some nice, quiet, smooth tires on the car for daily driving and swap out when I want more.
This is a WHOLE NEW ball game for me, so I really dont even know what I am even looking for or where the good resources are to find them might be. So here's what I'm asking for (sizes for AP2 stock wheels):
1. Got any to sell? Let me know.
2. Know where I can go for them? I'd love to hear it.
3. ANY ADVICE on what to look for would be great.
I'd really love to have a set prior to SESM.
Are you talking straight up R-Comps or hi-performance street tires?

I buy my Toyo RA-1s @ Edge Racing..

Good HPDE tires, but not gonna win Auto-X with these...

I'm not sold on one way or another right now....I just want something that performs really well since I don't need it for DD anymore.

Thanks! I won't win AutoX anyway :D
Well it does matter to some degree...
Will you have a tire trailer or a support car to bring your "race" wheels/tires to the event? Or will you drive the car on the race wheels/tires to the event?
Do you want to use the tires on the streets at all, on whatever "mountain drives" you have up there?
There are very few R-Comps that you can use on the street (even if technically they're all DOT-rated and you can theoretically drive them on the street).

You know me...I always trailer to track events.
I don't need them for mountain runs, I don't drive with that much spirit on public roads.
I would probably drive them to AutoX and just risk getting fussed at.

I think Minsoo mentioned that the hot new Auto_x tire is the Dunlop Dirizza (spelling?)
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=Direzza+Sport+Z1+Star+Spec)
Extreme performance summer tire.
The star spec is a street tire not a r-comp.... since there is no ST* class for teh s2000 you definately won't win. I'd go with a set of Kumho victoracers or RA1s..

I most recently paid $163 for 275/40-17 Toyo RA-1 "not shaved" from Edge...not a bad price just for track days....
The Toyo R888 is the RA-1 replacement, and is the new Hot tire, so the R888 is priced higher, and the RA-1 is being phased out and is cheaper, i.e., "clearance sale pricing".

Ok, so now for the fun question...and since I've been stock for so long I really dont have a clue.
The stocks are 215/45-17 and 245/40-17.
Since I don't see those sizes in many tires...which tire sizes will actually fit the S?
Obviously I know the 17 can't change :D
I'd buy minsoo's ap1 wheels with the RA1s... that's a good deal :)
You can always sell the AP2 wheels to fund the ap1 wheels with RA1s.

Ok, get real familiar with the below web sites...you can learn/play with tires/wheels sizes till you pass-out...Select the perfect size tire for you, then go shopping online for the tire(s) you want....
Make sure you know your wheel widths...this will tell you how wide of a tire is "generally acceptable" for different tire widths/profiles...
Also, If you are going to an after-market wheel, then you have to play the game with offsets vrs width vrs a million other factors..

Since you are a Rcomp Virgin, go with something simple.
Maybe just do a "Plus-1" R comp tire. For example: run like a 225/40-17 and 255/40-17 RA-1 or something like that.....you don't have to go crazy with huge tires, the Rcomps will bring a bunch a traction,,,,you will need at least one set of tires to figure out how to use that traction for the good of mankind....after that you can play with tires/wheels sizes and compounds...

Stay pretty close to the same tire diameter if you can,,that eliminates many issues...and stick with known-to-fit widths, and you will be good to go.

Plus a billion.....
My first set of r-comps lasted 60 runs... the last set i used on my STi lasted 120 runs with some rubber left still. I'd suggested buying used for your first set anyways since they are not going to last long until you are used to the new limits of the car. The first thing I noticed when i was on R-comps is that you do not get any warning when the tire is about to reach it's limit (a good set or streets will squeal and give you fair warning) so it will be an adjustment in your driving.

Agreed!
I did maybe 15 track days on REO50s and ROE50As before moving to Rcomps this springs....and boy could I make the tires squeal like a pig.
I remember that @ Roebling, I would go thru turn 1-2 sideways, the turn 1/2 corner worker would always grap for the yellow flag, then see it was me, then they would wave and smile at me as I side thru 2 onto 3.....lap after lap....:drive:
But the Rcomps don't do that...I have pushed them pretty hard, but have NOT found the lateral G load limit yet...I am "sneaking up" on it....but it may take me all year to find it.

...which is also why RE01Rs aren't off my list yet.

If you decide to sell them let me know..
You just want the rims?
As long as you didn't tear yours up too bad, if the timing works out you can just have one of mine. I doubt Honda will care when its turned back in.

In a VERY quick effort to derail my own thread....anyone ever taken their own tires off the rims?
Is it do-able? Is it hard?
You stand a VERY good chance of damaging the wheel and tire. You need the appropriate equipment.

U cannot get drunk ENOUGH to get those damn tires off the wheels...you will kill yourself in the process,,,,,,,,you will not have to worry about the wheels.

(4) Used Toyo Proxes T1R Tires-18". These just came off the Honda S2000 that I am selling. The fronts (225/40-18)have about 80% even tread left and the rears (255/35-18)have 50% even tread left on them. These tires retail for $200+ each new. Make me an offer and come get them!
Pics available if you need them... but they are just tires.
